Charter of the ecotourist

Responsible tourism before is very based on the concept of exchange and respect: respect of the other, respect of its culture and its difference, respect of our natural environment. Here some councils that we concocté you to make you a more responsible tourist... a ecotourist.

Respect of the local populations

  • Before leaving, document you on the behaviors to adopt or avoid in the country visited not to shock the local populations: according to the countries, to cherish the head of a child, to dress themselves in a too ostentatious way, to embrace themselves in public, etc can prove very impolite.
  • Respect the various cultures and traditions of the people which you came to see, adapt you and enrich you by this difference.
  • On the spot, privilege as much as possible the hotels and services suggested by buildings, it is one of the best means of making them profit directly from the money of tourism.
  • Ridges attention not to distribute your money to all-goes, a sum which you think ridiculous can be of a great value for your hosts. Tips and remunerations must be in connection with the cost of living on the spot.
  • In the same way, reflect before giving money to the children who beg, certain parents see an employment more gainful there than to send them to the school.

Natural respect of the environment

Fauna and flora

  • Do not attract the animals with food, that modifies their food mode and can be to them fatal.
  • Observe the wild animals remotely reasonable not to frighten them and modify their behaviors, do not touch-not them, for your own security and theirs.
  • Do not bring back them on your premise, alive or not died, and do not encourage the trade of their skins, fur, ivory, etc
  • Respect the beaconing of the ways, you will thus avoid trampling the flora.
  • Do not gather the plants and flowers on your passage, do not collect the corals, certain species are in process of extinction.

Waste

  • Carry bags dustbins for all your waste and throw them in a dustbin, even when they are biodegradable, to avoid visual pollution. Imagine a beautiful landscape full with peelings and papers!
  • Before leaving, limit to the maximum disposable packing to leave on the spot.
  • In the same way for your stays in the most stripped countries. There often does not exist discharge, even less incinerator or of system of recycling, to treat them. They finish in the open air, at the exit of the village, often even in front of the houses.
  • To bring back to France harmful waste like the piles and other materials which could not be recycled or destroyed in the country of destination.

Displacements

, It will agree difficult to cross the Atlantic to the stroke or to return to you to foot in the south of Italy unless being a high level sportsman and to have much time in front of oneself. In the same way, to go by train to Madagascar or covoiturage in Kamtchatka appears rather complicated...
Without leaving in the extremes, a little good senses, of good will and some councils should make it possible to try to pollute our least possible planet. Here thus in the order preferably:

  • The walking or the bicycle is very well adapted to the short ways. In addition to the fact that you remain in form, that gives you time to appreciate the landscapes.
  • Public transport like the bus or the train is among the best places to come into contact with the population. The poor countries, failing to have a car in each hearth, besides often are very well served. For ways of less than 800 km, that remains more reasonable than to take the plane.
  • Think of the covoiturage, more and more of Internet sites propose advertisements for departures in France but also in Europe.
  • While privileging the small roads rather than the highways, you will roll less quickly (go, one is not at an hour near on a way of 700 km.), you will thus consume less and you will save also the expenses of toll. Think of limiting the use of air-conditioning to strong heats.
  • The plane thus remains essential for certain ways. Did you think of compensating for your CO2 emissions?
  • Generally, if you like to leave far, better is worth to leave less often but longer...

 Consumption of the resources

Water: do not waste it, do not pollute it. Many ecotouristic destinations are in developing countries which always do not have system of recycling of waste water like on our premises. Consequently, it is necessary to save this water which the inhabitants sometimes obtained after several kilometers traversed with feet.

  • Privilege the fast showers rather than the baths which consume on average 5 times more water!
  • If you must wash or wash your linen in a river, do it downstream from the dwellings and far from the drinking water points because the chemical residues of the products of toilet or detergent which you use find directly in the rivers or the sea. You are thus at the same time likely to pollute sources of drinking water, but also your own place of bathe...
  • Use it in containers rather than to let it run, in particular in the places where it is rare.

Electricity: save it. This resource is a luxury for the most stripped countries, in general are fed the principal cities, the others are often rationed at fixed hours.

  • Extinguish all the electricals appliance and the lights of a part when you are not there.
  • Do not leave your apparatuses in day before, they continue to consume much electricity.

 Equipment

  • Invest in lamps and solar chargers, you will make profitable them by saving the purchase of piles and will avoid having to throw these last. Failing this, prefer rechargeable batteries.
  • With the beach, use a suntan lotion rather than an oil which will not dissolve in water. Close to the coasts, the sun oil forms a screen on the surface and slows down the photosynthesis of the underwater plants.
  • Prefer maintenance products and body biodegradable, certain countries or places isolated do not have inevitably system from treatment of waste water.
  • Use reusable equipment rather than the disposable ones. For example: have a gourd for drinking water rather than to buy a new plastic water bottle.
  • Cook with gas if possible, failing this, use already dead wood (on the ground). Attention with the fires!
